Are you living in the Comfort Zone or the Freedom Zone?
I picked this up from some Tony Robbins tape, years ago.
Imagine you’re encompassed by a circle of mediocrity. We’ll call it “The comfort zone.”
This is where things feel safe and comfortable.
The comfort zone says, “It’s okay, I’ll go to the gym tomorrow instead.” Or, “I’m too tired to get up early and work on that project.”
The comfort zone is a seductress, soft and delightful, but she’s the enemy of progress. Progress doesn’t happen within the circle of comfort, it happens outside the circle in the “freedom zone.”
Break On Through To The Other Side
How do you break through the comfort zone and into the freedom zone? The first step is to identify what the boundaries of your circle consist of. Think of them as mental and spiritual bottlenecks.
Here are some possibilities (Not an exhaustive list):
- Limiting beliefs
- Bad habits
- Trying to fit in with society (family, friends, etc.)
Once you identify the boundaries, make an effort to break them. Stretch beyond them, further and further, until you break through to the freedom zone.
How do you know when you’ve broken through?
Think of what stretching feels like. It’s uncomfortable. It burns.
That’s what the freedom zone feels like.
Here’s the kicker: Once you reach the freedom zone, you’ve simply reset your comfort zone and created a new freedom zone.
It never ends. As long as life continues, the creative challenge is to tussle, play, and make love with the present moment while giving your unique gift. – David Deida
